I had the opportunity to do a photoshoot with some cowboys as they were branding cows. I live in a pretty rural area where opportunities like this come by often. I want to thank my friend Steve Streadbeck for keeping his eye out and basically producing this shoot for me. I also want to thank the cowboys for working with me on this shoot. We made some really nice images. Which one is your fave?

Pheasant Hunt shoot!

Pheasant hunting is always a fun time. Here are a few images from a pheasant hunting shoot I did. My goal with this shoot was to capture images that will get hunters excited for fall and all the fun that comes with being outdoors in the fall hunting season. I wanted to create a photograph of a bullet coming out of a barrel. We didn't have a high speed camera so we composited these elements together to make the image.

SUP shoot at GSL

A good friend of mine named Caroline Gleich and I recently did a Stand up Paddle board shoot. Her boyfriend, Forrest Shearrer joined us and between the three of us, we came up with some pretty cool shots. Hard to believe that this was shot in November at the GSL. A little update

I finally updated my portfolio site. I guess that is what happens when the shooting slows down a bit. I woke up one recent morning and realized that I actually have time to market and update the site. I would still rather be shooting. That is OK, I've got a bunch lined up! Here are a few shots from a shoot that I recently did. It was a lot of fun making the airplane, although it took much longer than I thought.

This little guy was a real sport. He had to do about 10 jumps to get the right one for the shot. No compositing arms, legs, or capes for this shot. We shot this in the studio and added the sky in post.

If you read my last posting, mentioned the great support that Cindy is for me. This is a case in point example. She was doing pull-ups on a ladder to make this shot possible. I'll explain....

I wanted to do this tight rope business shot but didn't have a tight rope or the money to call the circus and get one. So I took a trip to home depot and bought some rope. problem solved right? Not quite. Because this was a studio shot, I didn't have a real way to anchor the rope to make it solid enough for someone to walk on. So instead, I just stretched the rope between two light stands about 6 inches off the studio floor. Then I put a ladder so it spanned over the rope. Then Cindy got under the ladder, did a pull-up so she could carefully put just the right amount of weight onto the rope, making it appear that she was actually walking on it. Needless to say we did this shot in just a few takes. If you look at the raw images, the edges of the ladder show just a little bit in the corners. I should have shot the set, so as to show it better. I promise to be better at this in the future. I also did a male version of this. I was the only person in the studio acting as photographer and model. This type of thing only works for shots where my face doesn't show!

Ok, once the shot was made, I added white space to make it square did a simple composite of the sky into the background and voila! C'est fini!
